Week 1 NFL Power Rankings

 Early Season Power Rankings

by Josh Olsen

1. Buffalo Bills- A team with a top 3 quarterback in the league with a complete team that has no big holes with SuperBowl aspirations.

2. Los Angeles Rams- The defending champions lost some key players in the offseason, but the main contributors are back to defend their championship.

3. Cincinnati Bengals- The loser of the Superbowl became winners in the offseason when they added 3 top-tier oline men to a unit that was a weak spot last year. Look for Joe Burrow and Ja’marr Chase to pick up where they left off last year.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Returning is the goat, Tom Brady for one last time, possibly.  The oline is suspect with injuries but look for Brady to keep them in the hunt and for Todd Bowles to keep the game defense in the top ten.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- You can never count out a Patrick Mahomes-led team with Andy Reid calling the shots. Lost some key players on defense and offence but Mahomes can cover up some holes.

6. Green Bay Packers- The team with back-to-back MVP in Aaron Rodgers. The big question will be who is he throwing to? The defense is all back with some new depth pieces.

7. Los Angeles Chargers- Another year in the same offence, Justin Herbert will keep taking the league by storm. He even may have a defense to help him win games.

 8. Baltimore Ravens- The ravens need to have better health luck then last year, right?  The only big hurdle the ravens have now is trying to get their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson.

 9. San Francisco 49ers- A complete team with few question marks but no bigger question Mark than at the quarterback position with Trey Lance. But if he hits, then watch for the 49ers to rise higher.

10. Philadelphia Eagles- A team with one of the best oline, they added A.J. Brown to pair with Devonta Smith. Jalen Hurts should put up huge numbers with the weapons he has.

11. Tennessee Titans- Derrick Henry returns from his injury last year to hopefully take back his spot as the top rusher in the league. If he's rolling, then the titans are rolling.

12. Denver Broncos- Adding Russell Wilson is hopefully the missing piece to what the Broncos have been building over the years. They have a complete defense.

13. Dallas Cowboys- The Cowboys lost a lot of players this offseason with the likes of Amari Cooper, Randy Gregory, and La’el Collins. They got some injuries on the o-line and the receiver's depth will be tested early on.

14. Las Vegas Raiders- The Raiders made one of the biggest trades this off-season when they acquire Davante Adams from the Packers to reunite him with his college quarterback and best friend, Derek Carr. They still have an o-line problem and the defense isn't all that good.

15. Indianapolis Colts- The Colts ended last season losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars and missing the playoffs. They traded away quarterback Carson Wentz and traded for Matt Ryan.  Playing in a weak division, look for them to take over the Tennessee Titans for first place.

16. New Orleans Saints- The New Orleans Saints almost made the playoffs after losing their starting quarterback, Jameis Winston. Now back healthy, look for the saints to push for first in the division with the Bucs being the only thing in their way.

17. Cleveland Browns- The browns did what three other teams try to do but failed and that was to trade for Deshaun Watson. They made him the 3rd highest-paid quarterback in the league. But he won't see the field till week 13 against his former team, the Houston Texans.

18. Arizona Cardinals- They have their franchise quarterback locked up in Kyler Murry for five years. They added some players on offence but the defense still needs work, especially in the secondary.

19. Miami Dolphins- The Dolphins are making sure they get a good read on the quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa by trading for Tyreek Hill. Gave him all the weapons with Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and Hill. The defense has good pieces but makes you wonder if Brian Flores was what made the defense so good.

20. New England Patriots- Mac Jones and the patriots surprised a lot of people last year when they made the playoffs as a wild card and even push the Bills for the division. But all news coming out of training camp is that Jones is shaken by the loss of Josh McDaniels, who left the Raider's head coach job.

21. Minnesota Vikings- In with the O’Connell, out with the Zimmer. The Vikings brought in Kevin O’Connell to be the new head coach. The offence will gain a big boost with the mind of O’Connell. The defense will be a work in progress.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers- Life after Ben Roethlisberger begins now... The battle of who filled his shoes is between Mitch Trubisky and rookie, Kenny Pickett. The offence will be a work in progress with the line being in tough sorts, but they bring back an all-star lineup on defense leading with T.J. Watt.

23. Washington Commanders- The Ryan Fitzpatrick signing didn't go over too well last year when he got injuries early on in the season so this offseason, they traded for Carson Wentz to hopefully less them into the playoffs. They still have Terry McLaurin leading the charge in the receiving core and hopefully, the defense can be as good as they look on paper.

24. Detroit Lions- I can see this team making some noise in the league this year. They added some more weapons for Jared Goff in DJ Chark and Jameson Williams. On defense, they added hometown boy, Aidan Hutchinson to wreak havoc on opponents' offences.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars- Everything that could of went wrong for the jags last year did, starting with the hiring of Urban Meyer. Now they have Doug Pederson to oversee the development of the second-year quarterback, Trevor Lawrence.

26. Carolina Panthers- If you think you have two quarterbacks that can start, you probably have none. That's what the panthers are doing this year where they have Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield as the quarterbacks. Matt Rhule is coaching for his job this season. Christian McCaffrey will be back, and they have DJ Moore leading the receiving core. The defense is young but has talent

27. Seattle Seahawks- The Seahawks traded their franchise quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos but if you ask Pete Carroll this is not a rebuilding team. A lot of people see it otherwise. They have some key players, but this will be a team that is tough to watch and have growing pains.

28. New York Giants- The Giants made Brian Daboll their new head coach that can hopefully save Daniel Jones's career as the team's quarterback. They drafted Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal to help with both lines.

29. Houston Texans- The Texans exchanged Watson their franchise quarterback since 2017 for David Mills, hoping that he will be their new franchise quarterback. Lovie Smith takes over as head coach, let's hope he lasts longer than the last head coach they had.

30. New York Jets- The Jets had a good off-season with the signing of Laken Tomlinson to fortify the line for Zach Wilson. They also drafted another weapon for him in Garrett Wilson. They drafted some key pieces on defense in Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson II. They also have Carl Lawson return from his injury last season.

31. Chicago Bears- The bears did not in to help their franchise quarterback Justin Fields in the offseason. They have a terrible line to protect him and have been terrible receivers to throw to. They drafted some key defensive players in Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon. New head coach, Matt Eberflus will bring his defensive schemes to a young talented squad.

32. Atlanta Falcons- The Falcons are doing anything to just have a team out there this season. It's going to be a painful season for the fans, but they do have some superstars in the making with Kyle Pitts and Drake London. This team will be picking in the top 3 of the draft unless Marcus Mariota or Desmond Ridder takes the league by storm.
